Professor Ataur Rahman Biswas passes away

Professor Md Ataur Rahman Biswas, chairman of the Department of Islamic History and Culture at Dhaka University, has passed away. He died of cardiac arrest on Tuesday night while staying at the Karamjal tourist centre in the Sundarbans, where he had gone to attend a workshop organised by the Faculty of Arts.

According to a university press release, he was 61, and is survived by his wife, two children, relatives, students and well-wishers.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan expressed deep sorrow at his death. In a condolence message, he said Professor Biswas made outstanding contributions to education, research, and various academic and administrative activities, and played an important role in addressing recent challenges faced by the university.

The vice-chancellor prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and extended sympathy to the bereaved family.
