Residents of Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area staged a protest on Friday (July 25) in front of the Mohammadpur Police Station, demanding the removal of Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ali Iftekhar Hasan.

Organized under the banner of "United Mohammadpur," the protestors accused the OC of colluding with local criminals and muggers, and claimed that ordinary citizens face mistreatment when seeking services at the station.

Local resident Parvez Hasan Sumon said, “We are frustrated by the lack of legal support and the OC’s behavior. Despite numerous complaints, no action has been taken to remove him.”

The protest followed an incident the night before, when journalist Ahmad Wadud was reportedly mugged. When he went to file a complaint, the OC allegedly told him, “If you carry an expensive phone around, you’ll get mugged.” The OC’s remark sparked widespread criticism on social media.

Following the incident, the police headquarters ordered four officers from Mohammadpur Police Station to be withdrawn from duty. However, no action has yet been taken against the OC himself.
