Protesters block Ctg–Cox’s Bazar highway seeking 6-lane expansion

Locals in Satkania of Chattogram blocked the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway on Sunday morning (November 30) demanding that the busy route be expanded to six lanes.

The blockade at Keranihat of the upazila halted traffic from 9:00am.

Protesters said the highway has become a “death trap” due to frequent accidents and narrow, risky stretches. Despite repeated appeals and earlier memorandums to authorities, no progress has been made, they alleged.

The highway is vital for tourism, trade, and humanitarian aid to Rohingya camps, with heavy daily traffic. Locals say the long delay in widening the road has forced them to resume protests.
