Protesters sorround Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam at Khulna Press Club

Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, Shafiqul Alam, was blocked at the Khulna Press Club on Saturday afternoon (June 28) by demonstrators demanding the immediate resignation of the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commissioner.

According to eyewitnesses, Shafiqul Alam, who is also a senior secretary, arrived at the Press Club around 5.00pm following a meeting with local journalists at the Deputy Commissioner's office. As he reached the venue, a group of protesters from the ongoing student-public movement gathered in front of the club and blocked all exit routes.

The demonstrators declared that they would not allow the Press Secretary to leave until the resignation of the KMP Commissioner was formally announced. As of 7:30pm, he remained confined inside the Press Club premises.

Media professional Mustafa Jamal Poplu confirmed the incident, stating: "The Press Secretary entered the club for an inspection, but a section of the protestors quickly took up position at the gate. This effectively trapped all individuals inside the club."
