Public gatherings banned near Chattogram Port for one month
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has banned all types of rallies, meetings, human chains, and street protests around Chattogram Port for one month, aiming to ensure smooth and uninterrupted import-export activities at the port.
CMP Commissioner Hasib Aziz issued the directive in a public notice under Section 30 of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police Ordinance on late Thursday (October 9).
The restriction applies to areas near the port, including Barik Building Crossing, Nimtola Crossing, Jetty Gate No. 3, Customs Crossing, and Saltgola Crossing.
The ban will be in effect from October 11 for the next 30 days.
According to the police commissioner, around 5,000 to 6,000 cargo vehicles pass through these areas daily, and protests or gatherings cause traffic jams, disrupting import-export operations, which harms the national economy.
