Public Service Ordinance under review: Finance Adviser

The Public Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025 is currently under review in response to demands from officers and employees, Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said on Tuesday (June 3). He made the statement as employees came to submit a memorandum calling for the ordinance’s repeal.

Since the ordinance’s recent issuance, the Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum has been protesting for its cancellation. Following a pre-planned program, officers and employees held a protest rally and procession on Tuesday.

Referring to the ordinance as a “black law,” protesters demanded its immediate repeal. Unity Forum leaders noted that prior to the ordinance, there was no disruption to the work environment and accused the law of suppressing the voices of government employees.

Expressing strong dissatisfaction over the absence of increased allowances in the proposed budget despite previous assurances, the forum called such treatment of employees unacceptable.

Co-chairmen Nurul Islam and Badiul Kabir announced plans to organize a nationwide intensified movement after Eid.

Later, officers and employees submitted a memorandum to the Finance Adviser demanding the ordinance’s repeal. In response to media questions, Dr. Ahmed said a committee of secretaries is currently reviewing the ordinance’s overall implementation.
