Public supported Awami League ban: Press Secretary
Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, stated that there was no notable international reaction to the ban on the Awami League, as it had public support.
He made the remarks during a discussion with journalists at the Magura Press Club on Friday afternoon. Alam said, “we want the trial of the Awami League to proceed fairly. The judicial process will follow its own course. While we want a swift trial, it must be free from any injustice.”
On the issue of national elections, he noted that the Chief Adviser has clearly indicated that the elections will be held between December and June.
Commenting on the case of child rape and murder in Magura, the Press Secretary expressed hope for justice. “We have expedited judicial proceedings as much as possible to ensure justice. The Cabinet has enacted necessary legal reforms in this regard. We are hopeful that justice will be served,” he said.
Alam also emphasized the need to address the financial challenges of local journalists in order to improve the standard of rural journalism.
The event was attended by Professor Saidur Rahman, President of the Magura Press Club, General Secretary Shafiqul Islam, and journalists from various print and electronic media outlets.
