A petrol pump manager was allegedly run over and killed by a truck driver in Narail after he failed to supply diesel to the vehicle due to a shortage of fuel. Another person was injured in the incident and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred around 2:00am near the Rail Bridge area of Tularampur union in Sadar upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased, Nahid Sardar, 33, was the son of Akram Sardar from Peroli village of the same union. The injured, Jihad Mollya, 27, is the son of Zahur Ali from Chamrul village.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tularampur Highway Police, Sekender Ali, confirmed the death.

According to police and local sources, truck driver Sujat Mollya from Peroli village went to take diesel at Messrs Tanvir Filling and Gas Station located beside the Jessore–Narail highway in Tularampur. However, the pump manager Nahid Sardar could not supply fuel as the station had run out of diesel, leading to an argument between them.

At one stage of the altercation, the truck driver allegedly threatened to run the manager over with his truck.

Later, around 2:00am, Nahid and pump employee Jihad were returning to their village Peroli on a motorcycle. About 100 yards from the pump, the truck driver allegedly chased them from behind and ran the vehicle over them, killing Nahid on the spot.

Jihad was critically injured and later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

CCTV footage from the filling station reportedly shows the truck driver remaining at the pump after the argument. Around 2:10am, Nahid left the station on a motorcycle with Jihad after finishing work, and the truck was seen chasing them at high speed shortly afterwards.

OC Sekender Ali said efforts are underway to identify the truck and the driver responsible for the incident.

He added that legal action will be taken following an investigation.
