A pump worker at Karim Filling Station was allegedly run over and killed at Goalanda Mor in Rajbari Sadar upazila after demanding payment for fuel. A black vehicle ran him over and fled the scene. The incident occurred around 4:30 am on Friday, January 16.

The deceased was identified as Ripon Saha, 30, son of Pabitra Saha of Sahapara area under Khan Khanapur Union in Rajbari Sadar upazila.

Police said the vehicle was seized during a drive on Friday afternoon from Baro Muraripur village in the Sadar upazila. The vehicle owner Abul Hashem and driver Kamal Hossain were detained at that time. Abul Hashem, 55, is a former treasurer of Rajbari district BNP and former president of the district Jubo Dal. He is a first-class contractor by profession.

According to filling station employees, a black Land Cruiser arrived at the pump late at night and took fuel worth around Tk 5,000. When the vehicle attempted to leave without paying, Ripon Saha tried to stop it. The driver then sped up, ran him over, and fled. Ripon Saha died on the spot.

CCTV footage from the filling station shows Ripon Saha and Abul Hashem standing beside the vehicle after refuelling. A short while later, Abul Hashem got into the vehicle. As the vehicle began to move, Ripon ran after it, and at one point the vehicle ran over him before driving away.

Officer-in-charge of Ahladipur Highway Police Station Md Mizanur Rahman said Ripon Saha chased the vehicle over the Dhaka–Khulna highway demanding payment. Later, his crushed body with severe head and facial injuries was found on the highway. The body was recovered and sent to Rajbari Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Police also said Abul Hashem had previously been charged under the Arms Act. In February 2025, he was arrested from the Daulatdia brothel area with a foreign pistol, magazine, and bullets, and was later released on bail.

Officer-in-charge of Rajbari Sadar Police Station Khondkar Ziaur Rahman said the two detainees have been kept in police custody, and necessary legal action is underway.
