Qatar is sending an air ambulance from Germany to transport BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. Although the aircraft belongs to a German air ambulance company, all arrangements and costs are being handled by the government of Qatar.

Qatar Embassy confirmed the matter to the media on Friday and said that the aircraft, arranged under the auspices of the Amir of Qatar, will land in Dhaka tomorrow, Saturday, at 5pm. Necessary landing permissions have already been issued.

Earlier in the day, airport authorities informed that the originally designated Qatar-based air ambulance A-319 would not be arriving due to technical complications.

Meanwhile, Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of BNP, arrived in Dhaka on Friday afternoon. She is expected to accompany Khaleda Zia on the London flight.

Khaleda Zia was taken to Evercare Hospital on November 23 night after suffering breathing complications. Tests revealed lung infection, and she was admitted. Her condition suddenly deteriorated on November 30, after which she was transferred to the CCU and placed on ventilation.

Owing to the worsening condition, specialist medical teams have already arrived in Dhaka from the United Kingdom and China.
