Quack with snake-bite injuries leaves hospital secretly

A quack who was injured in a snake bite while catching a cobra in Bheramara, Kushtia, has left the hospital without completing full treatment.

Quack Imran Hossain, 38, said that he was uncomfortable staying there due to the crowd of journalists and YouTubers in the hospital.

"Some were also trying to prove me a hypocrite as I came to take treatment in hospital. That is why I went home instead of staying in the hospital," he added.

Local sources said that Imran went to the house of Amirul Islam in Bheramara Upazila last Friday night to catch snakes. He first rescued a few baby snakes from a hole in the yard. Later, while he was catching a large cobra, it bit his knee. The locals quickly admitted him to Kushtia General Hospital.

Later on Sunday (July 19), Imran left the hospital while he was undergoing treatment at the ICU.

Dr. Iqbal Hasan, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Kushtia General Hospital, said that Imran had applied to be discharged from the hospital on Saturday night. When he asked for a discharge certificate again on Sunday morning, he was given the necessary medicines and discharged. However, he was still not fully recovered.

He said that although Imran is physically stable, he gave the reason for leaving the hospital as being a snakebite victim and feeling ashamed to be hospitalized.

Dr. Iqbal Hasan, giving a warning to the general public on this incident, said that if bitten by a snake, it is the safest and most effective way to go to the hospital without relying on a sorcerer or a broom.

Earlier, after the son of the owner of the house, Samrat, died of a snake bite, the panicked family called Imran when the snake appeared again in the house.

After the incident, a visiting card of Imran Hossain was circulated on social media. There, he introduced himself as a snake charmer and claimed to treat various complex and secret diseases, including snake catching and venom removal.

However, after being admitted to the hospital due to a snake bite, these claims were widely discussed and criticized on social media.
