Quake in Bay of Bengal triggers mild tremor in Teknaf
A light earthquake in the Bay of Bengal jolted the Teknaf area of Cox’s Bazar early Thursday.
The 4.0-magnitude tremor was recorded at 3:29am, with the epicenter located around 118 kilometers from Teknaf.
According to Volcano Discovery, the tremor intensity in Teknaf was very weak, leaving most residents unaware of the quake.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that the epicenter was about 10 kilometers beneath the seabed.
The incident comes a week after a stronger 5.7-magnitude earthquake shook Dhaka and several regions across the country—one of the strongest in recent years. That quake triggered widespread panic, forcing people to rush out of buildings.
Centered near Narsingdi, it left at least 10 people dead and several hundred injured nationwide.
