RAB officer’s wife strangled to death in Jamalpur

A woman was strangled to death during a robbery at her rented home in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur early Thursday (December 11).

The deceased, Lipi Akter, 35, was the wife of RAB-2 Sub-Inspector Mohor Ali.

The incident took place around dawn at a house near Shimla Bazar’s Gauri Shankar Field, confirmed Sarishabari Police Station OC Md Bachchu Miah.

Police said Lipi and her 11-year-old daughter, Nithi Akter, were asleep when assailants broke into the house by cutting the window grill. The intruders allegedly strangled Lipi with a scarf after she recognised them, then fled with gold ornaments. The child was reportedly threatened but unharmed.

Lipi and her daughter had been living in the rented house for several years.

Police recovered the body in the morning and sent it for autopsy.

OC Bachchu Miah said legal proceedings are underway as the investigation progresses.
