RAB seizes 22,642 litres of edible oil in Chattogram
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized 22,642 litres of soybean oil from multiple warehouses in Chattogram during a drive against illegal hoarding aimed at creating an artificial market shortage.
The drive was carried out jointly by RAB-7, executive magistrates from the Chattogram district administration, and BSTI officials on Tuesday night (April 7).
During the crackdown, two businesses were fined Tk 60,000 by a mobile court, according to RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) ARM Mozzafor Hossain.
RAB-7 Assistant Director (Media) ARM Mozzafor Hossain said, the drive was launched following intelligence reports that dishonest traders were stockpiling edible oil in areas including Oxygen Mor, Nasirabad, and Karnaphuli Complex, while also using BSTI labels without authorisation.
In a raid conducted around 10:00pm on Tuesday in the Gulbagh residential area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station, 1,042 litres of oil were seized and a case was filed against the warehouse owner.
Later, at around 1:30am, another drive in the Sholoshohor 2 No. Gate area under Panchlaish Police Station led to the recovery of an additional 21,600 litres from two warehouses.
The fines collected have been deposited in the government treasury in accordance with regulations.
