Rabindranath Tagore's 165th birth anniversary celebrated in Bogura
The 165th birth anniversary of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore was celebrated in Bogura on Wednesday evening, May 13. An event featuring a discussion session and poetry recitation was organised by the Bogura Lekhak Chakra Pathagar and Doash Public Library at Max Motel in the city.
The session was presided over by the library's adviser, Advocate Palash Khandaker. Poet and essayist Professor Muhammad Shahidullah attended as the chief guest. Poet Islam Rafiq, president of Doash Public Library and Bogura Lekhak Chakra Pathagar, delivered the welcome speech, while the library's general secretary, rhymester Amir Khosru Selim, also spoke.
Special guests included library adviser and Bogura Youth Choir president Atiqur Rahman Mithu, and North Bengal Group General Manager Abdur Rahim.
Discussions on Tagore's life and works were led by Ekotara editor poet Matiar Rahman and poet Ananya Rasel, general secretary of Bogura Jibanananda Parishad. Tagore's poems were recited by poets Abu Rayhan, Mahbub Tutul, S M Anichur Rahman, Shimpa Rani Mohanta, and Mahbub E Elahi Mithu, under the direction of poet Sikta Kajal.
The discussion was followed by a rendition of Tagore songs performed by Shimpa Rani Mohanta, S M Anichur Rahman and Mansur Rahman Tansen.
The event was also attended by vice-president poet Habibullah Jewel, poet Aminul Islam Ronju, poet Shahana Akter, poet Abdul Alim, poet Shakiblu Shakil, and many others.
