Raid conducted at Riyad's residence, cheques worth Tk 2.25 crore seized
A raid was conducted at the Nakhalpara residence of Abdur Razzak Bin Sulaiman Riyad, a leader of the Anti-Discrimination Movement and one of five individuals arrested in connection with an extortion incident at the former MP’s house in Gulshan. During the raid, cheques worth Tk 2.25 crore was seized.
This information was shared during a press briefing by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday morning (July 30), which focused on current issues. A case has been filed at Kalabagan Police Station in connection with the incident.
DMP spokesperson Muhammad Talebur Rahman stated that the cheques totaling Tk 2.25 crore were recovered based on the information obtained during the interrogation of the arrested individuals, who were accused of demanding Tk 50 lakh in extortion.
Earlier, on the evening of July 26, five people were caught red-handed at a house on Road 83 in Gulshan while collecting an additional Tk 40 lakh in extortion after having already received Tk 10 lakh.
The arrestees include: Ibrahim Hossain Munna, convener of the Dhaka Metropolitan branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement; Md. Siam; Sadman Sadab; Abdur Razzak Bin Sulaiman (alias Riyad), senior organizer of the movement’s Dhaka Metropolitan branch and a member of its Central Sports Cell; and Aminul Islam.
Later that night, after the extortion incident came to light, the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement expelled three of the individuals involved. In connection with the filed case, police have taken four of the accused into seven-day remand.
