Bangladesh Railway (BR) will restart passenger train operations on a limited scale from August 1 (Thursday), nearly two weeks after the service was halted.

Railways Minister Zillul Hakim announced on Tuesday that during the current curfew break, some local, mail, and commuter trains will operate on short-distance routes.

However, no decision has been made regarding intercity train services, he told reporters after a meeting with ministry and railway officials at Rail Bhaban in the capital.

Amid the quota reform protests, railways were obstructed in Dhaka, Gazipur, Chattogram, Feni, Mymensingh, and Rangpur on July 16. The situation escalated, leading to a near-total suspension of train services from July 18.
