Rail communication with Sylhet resumed 18 hours after a fuel-laden freight train derailed near Mantala Railway Station in Madhabpur, Habiganj.

The derailed wagons were cleared and tracks repaired at 4:00pm today (April 2), officials confirmed.

The train, traveling from Chattogram to Sylhet, derailed late Wednesday night, with five wagons leaving the tracks—four tipped over beside the line and one fell into a nearby ditch—halting rail services to Sylhet.

Locals rushed to collect spilled fuel, prompting deployment of the BGB, police, and army to control the situation.

Railway officials reported that each wagon carried around 39,000 liters of diesel, with approximately 30 per cent lost from two wagons and 5–10 per cent from the others.

A five-member investigation committee has been formed to determine the cause of the derailment, with a report due within three days.
