Railways ministry orders enhanced security ahead of election
The Ministry of Railways has instructed maximum security measures to ensure the safety of passengers, trains, and railway infrastructure ahead of the upcoming thirteenth national parliamentary election and referendum.
The directive was issued in an office order signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Fatema Tuz Zohra on Saturday, November 3, as confirmed by the ministry's public relations officer.
The order states that vested interests may attempt to create sabotage or instability around the election and referendum, raising concerns that the railway, as public transport, could be targeted for disruptive activities.
Consequently, all relevant officials have been instructed to determine and implement necessary actions to ensure overall security and to submit progress reports to the ministry.
The public has also been urged to immediately inform staff at the nearest railway station, relevant gatekeepers, or the Railway Police if they witness any attempt at sabotage or damage. Incidents can also be reported by calling the Bangladesh Railway hotline at 131.
