Rain in Dhaka likely to ease this afternoon
Due to the influence of an active seasonal wind, rainfall continues across the country, including the capital. After intermittent showers on Wednesday evening following a brief pause in the afternoon, light to moderate rain persisted in Dhaka throughout Thursday morning.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has offered some relief, predicting that rainfall in the capital may decrease somewhat after this afternoon.
Meteorologist Md. Hafizur Rahman said, “Rainfall is expected to lessen this afternoon. However, this is a temporary break as rain is likely to increase again from Sunday, July 13.”
According to a bulletin issued by the Meteorological Department, 46 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in Dhaka over the 24-hour period from 6 a.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday.
The weather office further stated that the skies over Dhaka and other parts of the country are expected to remain cloudy to overcast throughout the day. Light to moderate rain, sometimes accompanied by thunder, may occur in various regions. Winds blowing from the southeast or south directions are forecasted to reach speeds of 10 to 15 kilometers per hour in Dhaka.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued storm warnings for 15 regions across the country, including Dhaka. Winds could gust up to 60 kilometers per hour in these areas.
By 6 p.m., gusts ranging from 45 to 60 km/h from the southeast or east are expected to sweep across Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jashore, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar. These conditions may bring temporary showers or thunderstorms. Maritime ports in the affected areas have been advised to hoist Signal No. 1 as a precaution.
