Rain likely in 18 regions in Bangladesh
Rain is likely to occur in many places across Bangladesh’s different region, including the port city, as well as other parts of the country.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Barisal and Chittagong divisions; at a few places in Dhaka and Sylhet divisions; and at one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Khulna divisions, with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places in Barisal and Chittagong divisions, said a met office forecast effective for 24 hours from 9am on Sunday.
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged.
The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal to Assam across the southern part of Bangladesh. One of its associated troughs extends up to North Bay. Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay.
A low-pressure area is likely to form over the North Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.
Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal no. three as deep convection is taking place over North Bay and adjoining areas due to influence of the low pressure area over Northeast Bay that has intensified into a well marked low.
It now lies over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, said Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
