Rain sweep across country, temperatures likely to ease

The country is likely to experience widespread rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday (August 5), with moderate to heavy rainfall forecast in parts of the country, as temperatures are expected to fall slightly, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

In its latest weather bulletin, the BMD said Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are expected to receive rain or thundershowers with gusty winds at many places, while Dhaka and Khulna divisions could see rainfall in several areas. Isolated locations may experience moderately heavy to heavy downpours.

For the capital, the weather office forecast partly cloudy to overcast skies with the possibility of light rain or thunderstorms during the six-hour period from 7:00 am. Southerly to southeasterly winds are expected to blow at 10–15 km/h, while daytime temperatures in Dhaka are likely to remain nearly unchanged.

At 6:00am, the capital recorded a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius with 91 percent relative humidity, the BMD said. Dhaka also received 3 millimetres of rainfall over the previous 24 hours.

Despite the unsettled weather, the meteorological office said no warning signal has been issued for the country's inland river ports for the period between 5:00 am and 1:00 pm.

The forecast suggests a gradual easing of temperatures nationwide as rain-bearing weather systems continue to influence large parts of the country.
