Rain, thunderstorms expected in 7 divisions

The well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is currently situated in the southwest Bay of Bengal and nearby regions, leading to the possibility of rain with thunderstorms in various parts of the country. However, light to moderate fog may occur in some areas.

This information was provided in a bulletin signed by Meteorologist Dr Md Bazlur Rashid on Thursday (December 19) evening.

The bulletin stated that the well-marked low-pressure area is currently located over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, with its extension reaching up to the northern Bay of Bengal. It may continue moving northwestward. Additionally, a subcontinental high-pressure ridge extends over West Bengal and nearby areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, from 6.00 pm Thursday to the next 24 hours, the weather across the country is expected to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies. However, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms may occur in a few places in Dhaka, Khulna, and Barisal divisions between 6.00 pm Friday (December 20) and the following 24 hours. In the next 24 hours, similar rain or thunderstorms may occur in some areas of Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, and Chattogram divisions, as well as in a few places in Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.

Meanwhile, the highest temperature in the country was recorded in Sitakunda, Chattogram, at 31.5°C, while the lowest temperature was recorded in Tetulia, Panchagarh, at 10.2°C.
