Rain, thunderstorms likely in Dhaka today

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast rain or thunderstorms in Dhaka and adjoining areas on Thursday (August 27), with partly cloudy skies expected through the morning.

The forecast, valid from 7am for the following six hours, said winds may blow from the south or southeast at 10-15 kilometres per hour.

However, daytime temperatures are likely to remain largely unchanged, the forecast said.

Accirding to the met office, Dhaka recorded 28.5°C at 6am on Thursday, with relative humidity at 90 per cent. The capital recorded a maximum temperature of 34.1°C on Wednesday, while the minimum temperature on Thursday was 26.5°C. The city received 34mm of rain in the previous 24 hours.

The Meteorological Department said no cautionary signal would be required from 5am to 1pm on Thursday.

Elsewhere, rain is likely in most parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, while some areas of Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions may experience rain or thunderstorms. Some areas could also receive moderate to heavy rain.

Day and night temperatures across the country are expected to remain mostly unchanged.

The sun is scheduled to set in Dhaka at 6:22pm on Thursday and rise at 5:39am on Friday.
