Rain to persist across country for five more days

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has extended its rainfall outlook, forecasting that active monsoon conditions will continue to trigger widespread showers and thunderstorms across the country over the next five days, with heavy rainfall expected in several divisions.

According to the BMD's 120-hour weather outlook, issued at 9:00am on Sunday (July 12), most parts of the country are expected to witness rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds, with moderate to heavy rainfall forecast in several regions.

The Met Office said the monsoon trough extends through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and central Bangladesh to Assam, with one extension reaching the northern Bay of Bengal. The monsoon remains active over Bangladesh and is in a moderate state over the northern Bay.

On Sunday, most areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions are likely to receive rain or thundershowers, while isolated places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet may experience heavy rainfall.

On Monday, widespread rainfall is expected across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna and Sylhet divisions, with many places in Chattogram and Barishal also likely to receive showers. Moderate to very heavy rainfall is forecast at isolated locations.

On Tuesday, rain is expected in many areas of Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions and at a few places elsewhere, with heavy rainfall likely in parts of the two northern divisions.

On Wednesday, scattered rain or thundershowers are expected across all divisions, with isolated moderate to heavy rainfall. Day temperatures may rise slightly.

On Thursday, rainfall is likely in many areas of Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and at a few places elsewhere. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected, particularly across the southern regions, while day and night temperatures are likely to remain nearly unchanged.

The weather office said the prevailing monsoon conditions are expected to keep rainfall activity active nationwide throughout the next five days.
