Rain washes away sacrificial waste in Rajshahi due to sudden downpour. Relief returns to public life. The Meteorological Office has recorded 35 millimeters of rainfall in the city.

After extremely hot and humid weather, the continuous rain that started at 2:30pm continued till 4pm on Friday (May 29).

While this continuous rain has brought relief to the city dwellers on one hand, it has also caused waterlogging and temporary suffering on the other. Especially after the Eid-ul-Azha sacrifice, the environment has become much normal as the blood and waste of animals lying on various roads of the city have been washed away by the rain water. Local residents have expressed relief that the roads have been cleared.

In different areas of the city, it has been seen that the accumulated dirt and garbage has mixed with the drains due to the rain water. As a result, the city dwellers have got some relief from the stench and uncomfortable environment.

However, due to heavy rainfall, waterlogging has occurred in several low-lying areas of the city. This has disrupted traffic and caused hardship to pedestrians.

Many were seen walking to their destinations in knee-deep water. People returning from office and vehicle drivers have suffered greatly due to water logging especially in the low-lying areas and important roads of the city. Locals have alleged that water accumulates in a short period of time due to weak drainage system in some areas.

The Rajshahi Meteorological Office said that 35 millimeters of rainfall was recorded from 3pm to 4:30pm on Friday. The weather may continue like this for a few days.
