Rainwater pit claims lives of brother and sister in Rangpur

A brother and sister have died after drowning in a rainwater-filled pit in Gangachara, Rangpur. The younger brother fell into the pit, and his elder sister jumped in to save him, but neither knew how to swim.

The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, May 27, in the Mazarerpara area of Kolkond union. The deceased have been identified as Rusha Moni, 15, and her younger brother Saif, 5.

According to family and locals, the children had come to visit their maternal grandparents' home in Mazarerpara with their mother.

On Wednesday afternoon, they went out to play near the house. Saif accidentally fell into a pit filled with rainwater from recent storms. Rusha jumped in to save him, but both drowned. Another child raised an alarm, and locals rushed to rescue them. They were taken to Gangachara Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.
