Rajshahi NCP chief coordinator resigns, joint coordinator suspended
Tensions have emerged within the Rajshahi district unit of the National Citizen Party (NCP), following the resignation of District Chief Coordinator Rashedul Islam and the temporary removal of Joint Coordinator Nahidul Islam Sazu over serious allegations of breaching party discipline.
On Friday (June 28), a letter signed by Saleh Uddin (Sifat), NCP’s Joint Member Secretary (Office), announced that Nahidul Islam had been temporarily relieved of his duties for violating party discipline. He was also directed to submit a written explanation to the head of the disciplinary committee, Abdullah Al-Amin, within three working days, stating why he should not face permanent expulsion from the party.
Earlier, on Thursday night, Rashedul Islam submitted his resignation letter. In the English-written letter, he cited personal reasons for stepping down. He wrote, "I’m proud to have served the country under the banner of NCP. However, I now feel that such a high position is not suitable for me. I wish the best for NCP.”
Party leaders believe the resignation and suspension are linked to internal tensions. They reported that on Wednesday night, while sitting at Rashedul Islam’s restaurant, a heated argument broke out between Nahidul Islam and Firoz Alam. During the dispute, Nahidul allegedly kicked Firoz in the chest, seriously injuring him. Firoz was later admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he is currently being treated in Ward 32.
When asked about the incident, Nahidul Islam Sazu said, "It’s not a big issue. This is just a conspiracy because I spoke out about the Awami League’s rehabilitation efforts." However, other NCP leaders view the incident as a serious violation of party discipline.
Notably, on the night of June 18, the NCP announced its coordination committees for Rajshahi district and city. The 25-member district committee featured five joint coordinators.
