Rajshahi police go incognito to intensify security during Eid exodus
Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, Rajshahi police have deployed personnel in plainclothes across the city to ensure law and order and prevent opportunistic crimes targeting empty homes.
With thousands of residents traveling to their hometowns for the holiday, many upscale and middle-class neighborhoods have become nearly deserted, making them potential targets for professional theft gangs.
According to intelligence reports, these groups often scout areas in disguise during the day before striking at night.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (CTC) and OADC (Crime & Ops, Media) Md. Gaziur Rahman said patrols and checkpoints have been intensified, additional traffic police are on duty to manage congestion, and CCTV monitoring has been strengthened in strategic locations. “Plainclothes officers are actively patrolling residential areas to detect and prevent criminal activity,” he added.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-5) also confirmed heightened vigilance, with increased patrols and monitoring of key sites, while a dedicated hotline remains active for reporting suspicious incidents.
