Rajshahi safe from flood as Padma remains well below danger mark

The water level of the Padma River at the Rajshahi point is flowing nearly 2 metres below the danger mark. Even though all the gates of India's Farakka Barrage have been opened to the maximum, the Water Development Board has said there is currently no risk of flood in Rajshahi.

According to Rajshahi Water Development Board sources, the danger level at the Rajshahi point of the Padma River is 18.05 metres. The river's water level is currently nearly 2 metres below this mark.

Meanwhile, the Water Development Board has said the impact of water caused by the recent natural disaster in Nepal is unlikely to affect Bangladesh in the next five days.

Arifur Rahman Ankur, Executive Engineer of Rajshahi Water Development Board, said the Padma's water level is currently normal. Even though all the Farakka gates are open, the water in Rajshahi is flowing below the danger mark. The impact of Nepal's water is also unlikely to affect Bangladesh in the next five days. However, the situation is being monitored 24 hours a day.

Due to the rising water, the Rajshahi City Protection Embankment has been put on high alert.
