Rajshahi season’s highest temperature at 39.5°C

The temperature in Rajshahi has increased by two degrees in just one day. Today, a temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at 3pm, which is the highest of the current season. Yesterday, (Thursday) the highest temperature was 37.5 degrees. Today, the lowest temperature was recorded at 25.5 degrees Celsius.

The Rajshahi Meteorological Observatory said that the temperature has been gradually increasing since the second week of March. Although there was some relief with the occasional rains of Kalbaisakhi, it has been on an upward trend for the past few days. The Meteorological Office said that this trend may continue.

According to the Meteorological Department's classification, a temperature of 36 to 37.9 degrees is called mild, 38 to 39.9 degrees is moderate, 40 to 41.9 degrees is severe, and 42 degrees or more is considered very severe heat wave. Accordingly, a moderate heat wave is going on in Rajshahi today.

Rahidul Islam, in-charge of the weather observatory, said that the temperature has increased by two degrees today compared to yesterday to 39.5 degrees, which is the highest so far this season.

People of all classes are in trouble due to the intense heat. The temperature is not comfortable even at night. So far, there has been no significant increase in the number of heat-related patients or heatstroke in the hospital.

Rajshahi Medical College Hospital spokesperson Shankar K Biswas said that the hospital has a heatstroke corner and necessary preparations have been made. He said, "If the heat continues, the number of patients with respiratory problems and diarrhea may increase."

Regarding what to do in the heat, he advised that one should avoid fried foods and open syrups outside, use loose clothing and umbrellas, and drink plenty of water. He especially attached special importance to ensuring hydration and a balanced diet for children and the elderly.
