Dhaka North and South City authorities have identified around 300 small and large risky buildings in the capital, Reazul Islam, chairman of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), said on Monday (November 24).

He warned that without coordinated efforts, managing post-earthquake situations would be difficult and urged the government to ensure joint action.

Reazul Islam emphasised that RAJUK approves building plans according to regulations and does not engage in any financial transactions for approvals. Homeowners submit plans prepared by engineers or architects and must follow RAJUK rules; failure to comply warrants fines or penalties, which are the owners’ responsibility.

He also highlighted administrative disorder, noting that the city corporation, RAJUK, and Fire Service operate separately, creating inefficiency in managing risky structures.
