Ramadan 2027 could begin on February 8, Eid likely on March 9
Muslims around the world are already looking ahead to Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr in 2027, with astronomical calculations suggesting the holy fasting month could begin in early February.
Based on lunar calculations, the first day of Ramadan 1448 AH is tentatively expected to fall on Monday, February 8, 2027. The date is also being projected for Saudi Arabia and several other Middle Eastern countries.
However, the date is not yet definitive. The start of Ramadan depends on the sighting of the crescent moon, meaning the actual beginning of the holy month could vary by a day from country to country.
Under the traditional Islamic calendar, Ramadan begins after the new crescent is sighted on the evening of the 29th day of Sha'ban. If the crescent is not visible, Sha'ban is completed as a 30-day month and Ramadan begins the following day.
If Ramadan begins on Feb. 8 and lasts 29 days, the fasting month would end around March 8. The crescent of Shawwal could then herald Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday, March 9, 2027, according to current astronomical projections.
The dates remain estimates at this stage. In Bangladesh and other countries where local moon sighting is observed, the relevant authorities will make the final announcement based on the sighting of the crescent.
Ramadan is one of the most important months in the Islamic calendar, marked by fasting from dawn to sunset as well as increased prayer, Quran recitation, charity and other acts of worship. If the astronomical projections hold, Muslims worldwide could begin welcoming Ramadan in the first week of February next year.
