Ramadan begins in more than 50 villages of Chattogram today

In line with Saudi Arabia, more than 50,000 people from more than 50 villages of Chattogram have started fasting of Ramadan from today (Saturday). They are followers of Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif in Satkania upazila of south Chattogram.

They have been observing Ramadan and Eid in line with Saudi Arabia for a long time.

The followers of the Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif in Satkania, Chandanaish, Lohagara, Banshkhali, Boalkhali, Anwara, Patiya, Karnaphuli upazilas performed tarawih and ate Sehri on Friday (February 28) night.

Besides, there are followers of Mirzakhil Darbar Sharif in several villages of Hathazari, Sandwip, Fatikchhari in Chattogram, Lama, Alikadam and Naikshongchhari in Bandarban, Teknaf and Maheshkhali and Cox's Bazar Sadar upazilas. They are also fasting today after eating Sehri on Friday night.

Sahibzada Mohammad Mosaudur Rahman of Mirzakhil Darbar on Friday night said, "As followers of the Hanafi Madhhab, we will observe the first fast on Saturday following the news of moon sighting in Mecca and Medina Sharif through various domestic and foreign electronic and print media. To this end, we have already performed Tarawih prayers.”

He said, "We have been observing Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha and all the rituals related to the lunar month for almost 200 years, depending on the sighting of the moon in any country in the world."
