Rampal road accident: 13 people including just married couple killed

At least 13 people including a just married couple were killed in a head-on collision between a Navy staff bus and a wedding microbus in Rampal of Bagerhat. At least 15 others were injured in the incident.

Police said that several members of the same family are among the deceased.

The deceased include Abdur Razzak, the president of Ward 8 of Mongla Municipality unit BNP, his wife Anjuman, his three sons--groom Sabbir, Imran and Alamin, his brother Samiul Alam, 42, groom's cousins-- Putul, 23, and Oishee, 28, the bride Marzia Mitu, 25, her younger sister Lamia,12, the bride's grandmother and the microbus driver Naeem Sheikh, 36.

The accident took place on Thursday (March 12) afternoon in the Bellabridge area of ​​the Mongla-Khulna highway in Rampal upazila.

Police said that BNP leader Abdur Razzak, a resident of Ward No. 8 of Mongla Municipality, was returning home from Khulna's Koyra area after his son's wedding in a microbus. On the way, the microbus collided head-on with a Navy staff bus coming from the opposite direction, killing several people on the spot. The microbus was twisted in the accident.

Police and fire service members quickly reached the spot after receiving information and launched a rescue operation. The injured were rescued and sent to Rampal Upazila Health Complex and Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Dr. Mehnaz Mosharraf, the duty doctor of the emergency department of Khulna Medical College Hospital, said that among the dead brought to the hospital, there are children, women and men, and the condition of one injured person is critical.

Rampal Police Station OC Md. Abdullah Al Mamun said that four people died in the accident at Rampal Upazila Health Complex and nine people died at Khulna Medical College Hospital. The condition of some of the injured is critical.
