Rampal road crash: Nine victims of a family laid to rest in Mongla
Nine of the same family, who were killed in a road accident in Rampal Upazil, laid to rest side by side in Mongla following Friday prayers.
The funeral prayers (Janaza) for the victims, including BNP leader Abdur Razzak and eight family members, were held at the Mongla Upazila Parishad grounds.
Thousands attended the Janaza, including Faridul Islam, state minister for Environment and Climate Change; Sheikh Manjurul Haq Rahad, district officials; police; and relatives of the deceased.
The prayers were led by Maulana Ruhul Amin in Noksha village, Koyra and Rampal, respectively.
Ashraful Alam Joni, a member of the victim family, said, “I have lost my father, brothers, wife, children, sisters, and nephews. If anyone had any claims against us, we will settle them, and I ask everyone to forgive us.”
He also expressed forgiveness for any disputes and appealed for reconciliation.
The accident took place Thursday evening near Belai Bridge on the Khulna-Mongla route, when a Navy staff bus collided head-on with a passenger microbus, killing 14 people, including both the bride and groom. At the families’ request, the bodies were handed over from Khulna Medical College Hospital and Rampal Upazila Health Complex without postmortem.
Victims included groom Sabbir, his father Abdur Razzak, brother Abdullah Sani, sister Umme Sumaiya Oishi, her son Samiul Islam Fahim, sister-in-law Farhana Siddika Putul, niece Alif, Arfa, and Iram, bride Marzia Akter (Mitu), her younger sister Lamia Akter, grandmother Rashida Begum, maternal grandmother Anwara Begum, and the microbus driver Nayem.
Sabbir owned a mobile shop in Mongla, while bride Mitu was a first-year student at Noksha Alim Madrasa in Koyra.
