Rangpur quadruple murder: Dope test samples collected from two accused

Detective Branch (DB) police have collected urine samples from the two arrested suspects in the murder of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and three members of his family in Rangpur city's Machuapara area. The samples were collected on Sunday afternoon, August 30, from Mugdha Das and Siddhartha Das at Rangpur Central Jail.

As the case is highly sensitive, the accused were not brought out of the jail. A lab technologist and an assistant from Rangpur Medical College were sent to the jail to collect the required samples.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police spokesperson and DB Deputy Commissioner Sanaton Chakraborty said due to the widespread public outrage over the case, there was a risk of attack or mob violence if the accused were brought out of the jail. Considering security concerns, urine samples were collected from inside the jail.

Meanwhile, as part of the investigation, Siddhartha Das's father Binoy Das and brother Partha Das were brought to the DB office on Saturday night for interrogation. Police said they were released after the questioning.

On the night of August 22, police broke open the lock of a house in the city's Machuapara area and recovered the bodies of Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife, daughter and son. Following the incident, Mugdha Das and Siddhartha Das were arrested on charges of involvement in the murders.

According to police, the two arrestees have given confessional statements before a court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. The DB is continuing its investigation to ascertain the actual motive behind the killings and whether any other individuals are connected to the case.
