Rangpur quadruple murder: Nagorik Committee demands judicial inquiry

The Rangpur Metropolitan Nagorik Committee has raised questions over the police investigation and statements given to the media regarding the murder of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and three members of his family. The organisation has demanded a judicial inquiry to uncover the real mystery behind the brutal killings.

The demand was made at a press conference organised at a local community centre on Saturday (August 29). A written statement was read out by Palash Kanti Nag, member secretary of the Rangpur Metropolitan Nagorik Committee. He said the murder of teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and his family members has exposed the fragile state of the country's law and order situation.

Palash Kanti Nag said that after the arrest of two individuals in connection with the killings, the statements given by police to the media have raised various questions and doubts among the public. He claimed there are inconsistencies between the information provided by police, the statements of the victims' relatives and the circumstances at the scene.

The Nagorik Committee leader further said there are discrepancies between the statements of police and forensic officials regarding the killings. Therefore, instead of relying solely on police investigation, the entire incident needs to be examined impartially. He demanded a fair, neutral and acceptable investigation not only into the murder of Ganapati Chakraborty and his family but into every murder committed in the country.

The press conference stated that criminals are becoming increasingly reckless due to the culture of impunity. Ensuring the safety of citizens' lives and property is one of the primary responsibilities of the government. People want assurance of living in safety. Therefore, it is urgent to quickly uncover the real cause and those involved behind the murder of teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and his family members.
