Rangpur quadruple murder: Two accused being brought to Dhaka for DNA test

Two arrested accused in the murder of former teacher Ganapati Chakraborty and his family members in Machuapara of Rangpur city, Siddhartha Das and Mugdha Das, are being brought to Dhaka for collecting DNA test samples.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) Deputy Commissioner Sanaton Chakraborty conveyed this information on Sunday.

He said, "Samples of the two accused will be collected for DNA testing. For this, they will be taken to the CID office in Dhaka on Monday."

Investigation-related officials said evidence collected from the crime scene and samples of the deceased will be matched with the DNA of the accused. Through this, it will be verified whether the accused were present at the scene or whether they had any biological link with any evidence.

On the night of August 22, the bodies of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife Pritilata Chakraborty and their two children were recovered from a house in Machuapara.

As there was no contact with the family members for two days and a stench was coming from the house, relatives went there and saw the bodies inside the locked room. Later, police went and recovered the bodies of the four.

Siddhartha Das and Mugdha Das were arrested in the incident. They later gave statements before a court under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

In the investigation, the DB has already been reviewing the autopsy report, statements and various evidence. At the same time, investigation officers are trying to obtain more information about the involvement of the two accused in the killings through DNA testing.
