Rape evidence found after Kushtia student found unconscious in classroom
A sixth-grade student was rescued in an unconscious state from a school classroom in Mirpur upazila, Kushtia, by her family and locals. Medical examinations have found evidence of rape.
The incident took place around 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 9, at Chhatragachha Secondary School in Baruipara union of the upazila.
The girl had gone to the school at 9:00 am that day to attend a farewell programme for SSC examinees. When she did not return home by evening, family members began searching for her.
When they approached school peon Hamidul Islam to unlock the school building, he refused to hand over the keys. After an altercation, locals obtained the keys and entered the building, finding the girl unconscious in a room on the second floor.
She was first taken to Mirpur Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Kushtia General Hospital. Medical tests confirmed evidence of rape. The victim is currently out of danger.
Mirpur Police Station OC Shahidul Islam said the victim's mother filed a case on Friday night naming school peon Hamidul Islam as the sole accused. He was arrested on Saturday and produced before court.
