Rape for 3 months: Madrasa student says on phone, ‘I am in pain, take me away’
Police have detained a teacher on the allegation of raping a madrasa student, 10 years old, for nearly three months in Mirzapur of Tangail. The founder principal of the madrasa has also been detained on the allegation of trying to suppress information and instigating students to attack local residents in this incident.
Tension spread centering this incident at a madrasa in Bypass Bus Stand area of Mirzapur upazila sadar on Friday morning. At one stage relatives of the victim child and local people beat the accused teacher Al Amin.
The victim child is a residential student of the Nazera department of the madrasa. The family alleged that Al Amin had been raping the child by threatening him for nearly three months. Later the child developed various physical problems including stomach pain and bleeding from the anus.
When the child informed about the illness, his mother took him home. Family members said the child’s maternal grandfather saw blood in the bathroom while he was at home. Later he was treated at various hospitals in the locality and Dhaka.
The child was again left at the madrasa about 11 days ago. The family claimed that after again becoming a victim of torture there, the child’s physical condition deteriorated. At one stage he phoned his mother and said, ‘Ma, I am in great pain. Take me away.’
On Friday morning the child’s mother, maternal grandfather and maternal uncle went to the madrasa and demanded justice. Later when the matter became known, local people also gathered there. At one stage the accused teacher was beaten.
Meanwhile, allegation was raised against the founder principal of the madrasa Hafez Maulana Moniruzzaman of closing the gate and ordering students with sticks to attack the locals. However, the principal claimed that he had tried to defend himself as the situation heated up.
Getting the news, police of Mirzapur police station went to the spot, detained teacher Al Amin and principal Hafez Maulana Moniruzzaman and took them to the police station.
The accused teacher has denied the allegation raised against him. However, the principal informed that the accused teacher will no longer be kept at the madrasa after the incident.
Officer-in-Charge of Mirzapur police station Abdullah Al Mamun informed that the two have been detained and taken to the police station. The mother of the victim child has informed that she will file a case. The process of taking legal measures regarding the allegation is ongoing.
