Reception accorded to Monzil Morshed; expatriates pledge unity

Bangladeshi expatriates in Portugal held a reception for Advocate Monzil Morshed, President of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) and senior Supreme Court lawyer, during his visit to Lisbon on Tuesday (October 2). The event, organised by the expatriate association Casa do Bangladesh, took place at Dizaj Restaurant and drew a large number of community members.

The programme was chaired by Casa do Bangladesh President Rony Hossain and conducted by General Secretary Shahid Ahmed (Prince). Community leaders, including senior advisers and representatives of the Portugal Bangladesh Press Club, also attended.


Among the special guests who also spoke at the occasion were Casa do Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Rana Taslim Uddin, Abdul Hakim Minhaj, Masum Ahmad, Iqbal Ahmad Kanchan, Hafiz Al Asad, Shaheen Saeed, President of the Portugal Bangla Press Club Rony Mohammad, Dalton Zohir, Jamil Akbar Shamim, Jamal Ahmad, Shamim Ahmad, Ashraf Ahmad, as well as several other leaders from the expatriate community.


Speakers praised Advocate Morshed for his longstanding contributions to public interest litigation, environmental protection, and human rights in Bangladesh. They expressed hope that he would also advocate for the rights and welfare of Bangladeshis living abroad.

In his remarks, Advocate Morshed thanked expatriates for their warm welcome. He said Bangladesh’s remittance-dependent economy is sustained by expatriates and stressed the need for stronger recognition of their contributions. He urged the state to take effective measures to resolve their problems and ensure their rights.

At the end of the event, community leaders pledged to strengthen unity among expatriates and reaffirmed their commitment to work collectively for the interests of both Bangladesh and its diaspora.
