The BCS (Postal) Association has opposed the Public Administration Reform Commission's proposal to abolish the BCS (Postal) cadre service, highlighting its critical role in ensuring financial inclusion, especially in remote areas where commercial banks are scarce.

In a statement signed by the association's president, Md. Saleh Ahmed, and acting general secretary, Muha. Akhtaruzzaman, the association criticized the recommendation as unrealistic, unreasonable, and detrimental to the national interest.

They also warned that implementing such a reform could lead to serious negative consequences.

The association emphasized that, despite a decline in traditional postal services, the Postal Department remains a vital state institution. By leveraging digital technologies, it continues to serve the public through various modern services.

The Postal Department has provided banking services to 3.5 crore marginalized people. It also supports government revenue, administrative, and judicial functions through the distribution of stamps. During the Covid-19 pandemic, postal employees risked their lives to deliver essential supplies nationwide.

The association argues that replacing the postal service with a courier-based system would be strategically risky, increase costs for the public, and strain the country’s financial structure, as private companies avoid remote areas.
