Record remittance of $3.75 billion arrives in March
The highest ever monthly remittance in the country's history arrived in March. Expatriate Bangladeshis sent $3.755 billion during the month, marking an unprecedented figure for a single month.
Bangladesh Bank Executive Director and Spokesperson Arif Hossain Khan disclosed the information on Wednesday, April 1.
According to sector insiders, expatriates sent more money to cover additional family expenses ahead of the holy month of Ramadan and Eid. This has created a positive trend in remittance inflow, which is having a favourable impact on foreign exchange reserves.
According to the latest central bank data, expatriates sent $3.755 billion in March. At the current exchange rate of Tk 122.75 per dollar, this amounts to over Tk 46,000 crore. This is the highest remittance figure ever recorded in a single month.
Remittance in March this year increased by 14 per cent compared to the same month last year. Remittance in March last year stood at $3.3 billion.
In February of the current year, expatriate Bangladeshis sent $3.02 billion.
Total remittance from July to March of the current 2025-26 fiscal year amounted to $26.21 billion, which is 20 per cent higher than the same period of the previous fiscal year. The figure for the same period of the previous fiscal year was $21.78 billion.
Due to the rise in remittance, foreign exchange reserves have slightly increased after paying import liabilities. Total reserves stood at $34.25 billion at the end of the day on Wednesday, April 1. Under the IMF's BPM-6 calculation method, reserves stood at $29.61 billion.
