Record Tk 15.90 crore found in Pagla Mosque donation box
A record amount of Tk 15 crore, 90 lakh, 80 thousand and 146 has been found in the donation box of the historic Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj.
The tally was completed around 8:45 pm on Saturday, June 27, setting a new record for the mosque in terms of cash collected from a single box opening.
Additional District Magistrate and convenor of the donation box opening committee Mohammad Ershadul Ahmed confirmed the amount.
Earlier, on December 27 last year, the donation box was opened and 35 sacks of cash were found. At that time, Tk 11 crore, 78 lakh, 48 thousand and 538 was collected over three months and 27 days, along with foreign currency, gold and silver.
The donation boxes were opened at 7:00 am on Saturday. While previously the boxes were opened approximately every four months, this time they were opened after six months.
The boxes were opened under the supervision of Additional District Magistrate Mohammad Ershadul Ahmed. Deputy Commissioner and President of Pagla Mosque Management Committee Sohana Nasrin and Additional Superintendent of Police Nazmus Sakib were present.
The cash was first put into sacks and taken to the second floor of the mosque, where it was spread on the floor for counting. A total of 110 students from the mosque-affiliated madrasa, 300 from Al-Jamiatul Imdadia Madrasa, 33 mosque employees, 130 officials and staff from Rupali Bank, and members of law enforcement agencies participated in the counting.
Deputy Commissioner Sohana Nasrin said the Pagla Mosque fund currently holds a total of Tk 114 crore, 13 lakh, 7 thousand and 352.
She said the mosque's own website has been launched for donors at home and abroad, allowing donations to be made easily from anywhere in the world through online and mobile banking.
