Referendum is a conspiratorial system: GM Quader

Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader has called for thwarting the referendum, describing it as a conspiratorial system. He said if the ‘Yes’ vote wins, the country will have no governing system, yet major political parties are still failing to understand the consequences.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists on Thursday night, January 22, after visiting the grave of party founder Hussain Muhammad Ershad at Pallinibas in Rangpur city, marking the start of his election campaign as the Jatiya Party candidate for Rangpur-3.

GM Quader said that whether people vote or not, the government and those who appointed it will use state machinery to ensure a ‘Yes’ vote and form what he described as a revolutionary government. He said the party is not against reforms but believes reforms must be based on public opinion.

He further alleged that the interim government had termed the mass uprising a meticulously designed event and claimed that coordinators are the appointing authority of the current government, while the government acts as their guardian. He alleged that Jamaat is the ultimate appointing authority and that three groups together now constitute the ruling force, which has begun conspiring against the country.
