Election Commissioner (EC) Abdur Rahmanel Masud said that the sooner political parties reach consensus, the easier it will be to carry out the reforms. Returning the people's voting rights and holding fair elections is the job of the Election Commission.

He said this while talking to reporters at his office at the Election Building at Agargaon in the capital on Thursday (January 16).

Masud said, "The commission will analyse the reform report when the parties reach a consensus. The constitution will also be amended. We will work when everything comes to a shape. If the proposals made by the reform commission are implemented quickly, the commission will go a step further to conduct fair elections."

He said, "The sooner the political parties reach a consensus, the easier it will be to work. Returning the people's voting rights and holding fair polls are the aim of the Election Commission. We are confident, if we get the cooperation of all, we will be able to hold a beautiful election. The cooperation of political parties is also needed to make the elections free, fair, acceptable and credible.”

He said there is no opportunity to work in the traditional way. The EC is committed to holding a fair, transparent and impartial election.

On Wednesday, the Election Reform Commission placed a set of proposals to the chief adviser to remove various inconsistencies. Later, the interim government will engage in reform activities through dialogue with the political parties. At the same time, the Law Reform Committee of the Election Commission will also start its work.
