National Consensus Commission member and Secretary of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (SHUJAN) Badiul Alam Majumdar welcomed the Appellate Division’s ruling reinstating the caretaker government system, saying "It will pave the way for free and fair elections."

Speaking to journalists at the Supreme Court on Thursday (20 November), Badiul Alam Majumdar, one of the appellants, said the previous verdict by then Chief Justice A B M Khairul Haque had sidelined the country’s electoral system, making the last three elections controversial.

"After a long struggle, the review petition was accepted and the caretaker system restored," he added.

He also noted that he had consistently opposed the unconstitutional 13th Amendment verdict and subsequent 15th Amendment.

The Appellate Division fully annulled the 14-year-old verdict that had invalidated the 13th Amendment and disposed of the related review petition. The court ruled that provisions for a nonpartisan caretaker government are now revived and will remain effective as needed for future elections.
