After days of continuous intense heat and suffocating weather, a welcoming rain has drenched the capital city, Dhaka. The sky suddenly turned dark with clouds, and rain began in various areas of the city, bringing relief to the city dwellers who were miserable due to the heat on Thursday afternoon (June 18).

Around noon, as the sky over the capital became overcast, darkness descended upon many areas. Following this, light drizzles occurred in some places, while moderate to heavy rain was recorded in others, though the duration of the rain was relatively short in most locations.

The day's temperature has decreased slightly due to the rain. In particular, working professionals, rickshaw pullers, pedestrians, and laborers working under the open sky found temporary relief from the scorching heat.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) stated that an extension of a low-pressure area lies from Gangetic West Bengal to the Northwest Bay of Bengal. Additionally, the monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh, creating favorable conditions for rainfall across various regions of the country.

According to the forecast, gusty winds and rain with thunder are likely to occur in many places across Dhaka, Chattogram, Sylhet, Khulna, Barisal, Mymensingh, and Rangpur divisions, as well as in some areas of Rajshahi division. There is also a possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall in some parts of the country.

The weather office further informed that the mild heatwave sweeping over Gopalganj, Rajshahi, and Pabna regions may abate. Alongside this, day and night temperatures across the country are expected to drop slightly.

According to meteorologists, rainfall may continue in various regions of the country over the next few days, which will help further reduce the intensity of the ongoing heat.
