Remains reburied, grave cemented after Pir Shamim's body exhumed in Kushtia

The grave of Pir Abdur Rahman, also known as Shamim, who was killed in an attack at his darbar in Philipnagar of Daulatpur upazila, Kushtia, has been concreted to prevent any further attempt to remove his remains. Following a decision by the family, walls have been built around the grave and a concrete slab has been laid on top.

Earlier, on Friday night, Shamim's body was exhumed from the southwestern Philipnagar graveyard and reburied at his established darbar sharif. The following morning, on Saturday, relatives found the grave dug up and informed police.

The administration later recovered the remains from the darbar sharif premises and arranged for reburial at the original graveyard in the afternoon. Over the exhumation, Fazlur Rahman, Shamim's elder brother, filed a case against unidentified individuals at Daulatpur Police Station late on Saturday night.

He said the family does not know who removed the remains, and no discussion was held with the family on the matter. To ensure the security of the remains, a wall was built around the grave and a concrete slab was laid on top, as per the family's decision.

Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman said police and intelligence agencies are conducting a joint investigation to identify those who removed the remains from the site. Police have been deployed around the graveyard and nearby areas with strict vigilance to prevent any untoward incident.

It may be noted that Shamim was killed during a mob attack at the darbar on April 11. He was initially buried at the local graveyard following his family's decision.
